Below is a poem by Pat Johnson that gives a little more insight into how we feel about Big Sky Country.

Why Montana?
©Pat Johnson

They asked where I come from, and answered “The Big Sky”,
But when I said “Montana” they quickly asked me “Why”?
Now why would I be willing to live where cold winds blow,
where snow is deep and mercuries can reach fifteen below?
Why would I choose winter and a summer all too short,
where skiing and ice fishing is the longest outdoor sport?
But have you ever seen the mountains that touch our great “Big Sky”,
or ever smelled the fragrance of pine trees towering high?
Have you ever seen our lakes and streams so crystal clean and clear,
with plenty fish a swimmin’ and reflections of a deer?
Have you roamed a lonely dusty road where moose can wander free,
where nature lingers lazily and hides from you and me?
Have you wakened in the morning to a world untouched by fright,
where highways still are quiet, and campfires heat the night?
Have you rafted down a canyon – rapids carved the ragged shore,
where fishermen were wading, and birds of flight would soar?
Where snow still laced the mountains that nearly reached the sky,
where God seemed so much closer that you’d never question “why”?
I have – that’s why I love this place where peace and calm still reign,
where beauty, beast and purity still manage to remain.
There’s a world out there so busy with traffic, crowds and crime,
where city streets are cluttered with poverty and grime.
Where people are so lonely though their homes and dwellings touch,
progress overtakes their lives that once they treasured much.
Now buildings reach the endless sky, pollution chokes the land,
people rush from place to place seldom offering a hand.
So, my choice is still the great “Big Sky”.
My pride is what I give, and no matter where my feet may roam,
this is where my heart will live.
