Are all tags in Montana guaranteed?
No - some tags are guaranteed such as fishing,
upland birds, waterfowl, deer (whitetail and mule deer) and elk
but there are several tags that are not, depending on the area you
are going to. The easiest way to find out is log onto the Montana
Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks website: http://www.fwp.state.mt.us/
or contact the outfitter.
If I am interested in coming to Montana, how
early do I have to start planning?
The sooner the better, many outfitters are booked
for the next season by the end of current one. Availability is unique
to each outfitter, but at a minimum, big game outfitters must have
their client applications in by March 15th of that year.
How do I know which outfitter to choose?
You have worked hard and want your next Montana
Adventure to be the best it can be so here are some simple steps
to take when booking a trip:
- Ask for referrals from the outfitter, most
are happy to provide you with some contacts to ease your mind
- Find out what the success rate is, has anyone
come home empty handed, what were the reasons
- Ask for brochures/web site information/years
in business
- Refer to maps and find out where the
outfitter will be taking you. You want to link your abilities
with where you will be in the state
